Pack 29 has been given the opportunity to give back to out charter organization.  On October 22, we will meet at AUMC to help clean the grounds and prepare for the upcoming season.  Please join me on October 22 from 5pm-7pm and help us to show AUMC how much we appreciate everything they have done in support of out pack.  We will be cleaning the grounds, so long pants, work gloves, and tennis shoes or boots are prefered.  Thank you for all your support in giving back to our community.

Chewacla Work Day September 29

posted Sep 21, 2012, 9:10 AM by Mary Williams

Come join us as Pack 29 gives back to the community that has given so much to us.  Last year, Chewacla was kind enough to let us hold out Arrow of Light ceremony there.  This is our chance to show them how much we appreciate everything they have done.
September 29 at 9 am we will meet at the front gate and help to clean the park.  Please wear appropriate clothing.  This is a wooded area, so consider long sleeves, jeans and tennis shoes if the weather cooperates.

What an amazing response we had to our clothing drive.  We were able to donate 100 outfits to Big House.  Absolutely amazing.  Several people asked about bringing things in later as they cleaned.  We will run all collections except the Shoebox drive and the Toys for Tot drive all year.  While they won't be in the spotlight, any and all donations are appreciated and will be accepted.

We have started our change drive and are already up to $11.  This is a good start.  Our goal is $250 for the year, so don't forget to collect your change and bring it to the Pack meetings. Collections conatainers will be at all pack meetings so bring what you can.

It is hard to believe that it is almost time for school to start and with school, a new scouting year. I would first like to welcome back all of our returning families and extend a warm welcome to our new ones. For those who are new to Pack 29, we have begun giving back through monthly collections. The collection for each month is listed in the previous post "Welcome to Pack 29 Community Service." If there are any questions please contact me. As with everything, the monthly collection may change as the year progresses.

After an extended summer of feeding the hungry, the AUMC Food Pantry shelves are bare. Please join me in helping to restock the shelves for the upcoming school year. We will be collection kid friendly donations of peanut butter, macaroni and cheese, canned fruit, etc. Just ask your scout what he would like. Collection bins will be provided.

We will also be adding a change drive this year. All change cololected will be donated to Big House (http://www.ourbighouse.org). Big House is an organization dedicated to meeting the needs and improving the quality of life for children in foster care. They do this through the clothes closet, birthday club, swimsuit & towel drive and many other activities that support children in foster care. Please take a moment to look at the site and review what they do with your scout. Collection containers will be provided to each den as well as made available during each pack meeting. The goal this year is $250.00. This breaks down to about $5.00 per den per month. All proceeds will go directly to Big House to help fund their support of foster children.  Collection containers will first be seen at Survior.

It is time to kick off our new scouting year.  During this time we will also kick off our new year of collections and doing.  August 6 we will meet in the AUMC parking lot, by where our pack meetings are held, and help clean the grounds to give back to our charter organization.  Please dress appropriately and bring gloves. August 24 we will gather at Town Creek Park for an evening of fun, food and games.   We will continue in our efforts to support our Charter organization by collecting food for the AUMC Food Pantry.  Please bring kid friendly canned and nonperishable food (peanut butter, mac&cheese, canned fruit, etc.) to Survivor and place your donation in the collection bins.

Welcome to Pack 29 Community Service

Welcome to Pack 29!  We are expecting another great year in scouting.  As always there are lots of activities to participate in through school, sports, and scouting.  Since scouting means doing, we will be doing more to give back to community.   There are several ways we will be accomplishing this: monthly collections, work days, and a year-long change drive.

The year-long change drive will benefit Big House (http://www.ourbighouse.org/).  Big House is an organization dedicated to meeting the needs and improving the quality of life for children in foster care.  They do this through the clothes closet, birthday club, swimsuit & towel drive and many other activities that support children in foster care.

Monthly collections will benefit Big House as well as other charities that help improve the lives of children. We will collect for:

AUMC Food Pantry (http://www.aumc.net/Ministries/CommunityOutreach/AUMCFoodPantry.aspx)

Spirit Lake Ministries (http://www.spiritlakeministrycenter.org/)

Toy for Tots (http://m.toysfortots.org/mobile/default.html)

Big House (http://www.ourbighouse.org )

We will also be adding work days to our schedule this year.  There will be multiple opportunities to help throughout the year to help accommodate our busy schedules.  So far this year we have:

August 6 (5:30-7)  We will meet at AUMC and help clean the grounds.

September 29 (9-11)  We will meet at Chewacla and clean and maintain some area.

There will be at least 3 additional dates which will be posted as soon as I have more information.

August – Food (AUMC Food Pantry)

September – New and Gently Used Clothes (Big House)

October – Wish list items (Storybook Farms)

November – Shoeboxes (Spirit Lake Ministries)

December - New Toys (Toys for Tots)

January – Food (AUMC Food Pantry)

February - New and Gently Used Clothes (Big House)

March – Towels and bathing suits {new} (Big House)

April – Towels and bathing suits {new} (Big House)

May – Towels and bathing suits {new} (Big House)

Change drive to benefit Big House – Goal $250.00

We will also have 2 work days in the spring at times to be determined.  Information will be posted here.
