Pack 29 Pinewood Derby Information

Volunteers Needed

Volunteers will be needed throughout the day to have a successful race day.  Please consider signing up for a time slot.  We will have a sign up sheet at the Test and Tune Friday night.

Race Day

The Derby will be held at the Auburn United Methodist Church Annex in the Social Hall.   The Pinewood Derby is an excellent time to show good sportsmanship and showcase what the scout and family was able to build together!  You don’t need to arrive until your race time, but be sure to check-in on time.  You can register your car early, or you can have someone else register it for you.

"Be Fast... or Look Good Trying"

The pinewood derby is one of the most popular and successful family activities in Cub Scouting. Pinewood derby cars are small wooden models that Cub Scouts make with help from their families. Then they race the cars in competition. The cars are powered by gravity and run down a track. Every boy can design and build his own "grand prix" car to enter in the race.

Prizes and Recognition

The Derby is about doing one's best and having fun, so all child participants will be recognized.  But that doesn't mean our race winners won't take home some shiny hardware.  Winners, second place, and third place from each den and the pack as a whole will win trophies.  Awards will also be given for design excellence.

Pack Derby Workshop - January 28

Make plans to attend the Pack's only workshop.  Some tools and expertise will be provided by our Pinewood Derby Chairman, but other expertise and tools are welcome and needed.  Need some help with building a car or just need to use some tools?  This is the place to go!  The workshop will take place at the Auburn United Methodist Church Annex in the Social Hall as a come and go event from 9:00 - Noon.
